Will you be at the Rio Carnival 2019?

Rio Carnival is Samba

Street Parties, Samba Parades, and Flashy Carnival Balls

The Africans have subsequently influenced the Carnival with the introduction of samba music in 1917. Samba is now considered as traditional Brazilian music, and you can experience its rhythm at the Rio Carnival 2018.

Almost all the music played during Rio Carnival is samba. It is a uniquely Brazilian music originating from Rio, a dance form that was invented by the poor Afro-Brazilians.

Insight into Carnival history

The word Carnival originates from the Portuguese ‘Carne Vale’, interpreted as ‘Farewell to meat’.

The phrase refers to the Carnival as being the ultimate celebration before a period of abstinence from alcohol, meat and pleasure begin. This period lasts up to the Easter holiday, the date when Jesus Christ rose from the dead.

The 183rd Munich Oktoberfest is over…

Oktoberfest 2016 and Beyond:

Everything You Need to Know

Oktoberfest began as the marriage ceremony between Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese on October 12, 1810. All of the townspeople were invited to attend the festival, which took place in the fields outside of the city gates. Following the wedding the fields were named Theresienwiese after the Princess, and the party was such a hit that the townspeople asked King Ludwig to continue the celebration the following year. Oktoberfest in 2015 will mark the 208th anniversary of the festivities.

It’s all about the beer…

Among the many attractions, the “liquid gold” is probably the most important thing at the Oktoberfest. As usual, over 6 million liters of beer will be drunk this year.

Munich breweries on the Oktoberfest

According to tradition in the beer tents is only sold original Munich beer which is characterised by a long tradition, much experience in brewing and and the strict adherence of the “Reinheitsgebot” (Bavarian Purity Requirements). Here’s a overview of all six Munich Oktoberfest-breweries.

Augustiner was founded in 1328 and is the oldest Munich brewery. It’s rooted in the old Munich Augustiner monastery in Neuhauser Gasse.

Hacker Pschorr

The brewery was founded in 1417 at the place where today is the inn Altes Hackerhaus (Sendlinger Straße) and grew to the leading Munich brewery in the 18th century under the couple Joseph Pschorr and Maria Theresia Hacke

Wilhelm V. founded the brewery 1589. Originally the brewery at the Platzl where is still the famous Hofbräuhaus, one the the most important touristic attractions in Munich.

Already in the 15th century there has been a brewery in the Löwengrube.

This beer is brewed since 1634 in the Paulaner monastery and therefore the most recent under the Munich beers.

The Spaten brewery was founded 1397 and was setteled in the Neuhauser Gasse for the first centuries

Spaten Franziskaner

There is no best tent. All of the tents have a unique aspect about them but none of them are any better than the others

The next Oktoberfest Munich dates are:

Oktoberfest 2017: September 16 – October 3
Oktoberfest 2018: September 22 – October 7
Oktoberfest 2019: September 21 – October 6
Oktoberfest 2020: September 19 – October 4
